Basmati exports growth to slow down in FY20: ICRA

Indian basmati exports are facing headwinds in the current fiscal, after two years of strong growth, said an ICRANSE 0.71 % note released on Thursday. The ICRA note says that with uncertainty over level of exports to Iran as well as likely moderation in average export realisations, basmati rice exports are expected to be muted in FY2020. The All India Rice Exporters’ Association (AIREA) is the apex rade body of rice exporters of India. It has been constantly serving the rice trade since its inception in 1989.
India’s export of rice has also been showing progressive increase over the years and during 2017-18 a total quantity of 12.71 million tonnes of rice (both Basmati as well as Non Basmati) was exported from India. This comprised of 4.06 m tonnes of Basmati valued at
Rs 26,870 Cr ($ 4,169 m) and non Basmati rice 8.65 m tonnes valued at Rs 22,968 Cr ($ 3,564 m).
AIREA facilitiates its member exporters in liaison with various State and Central Government agencies in regard to various trade issues and policy matters
